How's That for a Monday Morning?

The thief who busted out the window on the driver’s side of my husband’s truck dropped a nice GPS in our yard. The police and neighborhood association have been notified. Pictures have been taken and now we wait. How’s that for a Monday morning in Omaha?

What Doesn't Kill You

Thanks to you I got a new thing started
Thanks to you I'm not the broken hearted
Thanks to you I'm finally thinking 'bout me

What if people had the same attitude about their families?

But she just talked from her heart and said, “You know what? It doesn’t matter what the economy is like. When you have a job, it’s an honor to have that job, and you should do it to the best of your ability without resentment and without attitude. You should be grateful you have a job and understand the value of what you do to serve other people when you have that job.” Karen’s words got me thinking: What if people had the same attitude about their families? What if they thought, “It’s a blessing to be fortunate enough to be a member of this nice family; I’m going to honor that great fortune, and I’m going to do the best I can to serve the people in this family.” Unfortunately, most people only think about themselves. ~Dr. Laura

Hat Tip: My Final Visit With My Friend Karen

I Don't Want To Be

I'm surrounded by liars everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by imposters everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by identity crisis everywhere I turn
Am I the only one who noticed?
I can't be the only one who's learned!

See That Little Girl?

See that little girl in the upper right hand corner standing on the kitchen counter digging into the cabinets? That's an accurate representation of what Fiona & Kinsley do at one time or another..especially when I'm on the phone or away from the room. It's so good to know I'm not alone. :)

Move Along

Zip Zip Zip

When something isn't working the way I think it should, I can think about the slogan, "Easy does it." Instead of redoubling my effort, I can slow down and reassess the situation. The answer I seek may be staring me in the face, but sometimes I have to let go of what I'm doing before I can see it.

I was trying to zip a removable lining back into my coat, but it wasn't working. I pushed as hard as I could, trying to force it to slide, but it wouldn't budge. Finally I saw that I had been trying to fit the lining's zipper into the coat's front zipper. No wonder I couldn't make it work!

How many times in my life have I done the same thing: forced a solution? I've tried to "zip" myself to people and situations that didn't "fit" me, becoming frustrated and disheartened in the process. But I've learned that "Easy does it." I can take the time to see if I "match" what I think I want before I jump in and start "zipping." My life is more serene because I'm not pushing to make myself fit somewhere I don't belong.

AWANA Awards Ceremony

Yesterday afternoon we had our AWANA Award Ceremony to go to at church. This is the time of year the girls are super excited about because it's the day that they are recognized for all their hard work. They have worked diligently to complete their books and memorize all their bible verses. Way to go Fiona and Kinsley!!!

Starting is all there is, so here I go!

We are alive, and that is the only place we need to be to start.
~J. Leeds

No one is too beaten down, too old, or too anything else to begin a self-improvement program. Willingness, and willingness alone, is the total price of the ticket.

The next thing to do is to get rid of excess baggage~like the notion that this or that condition must be met before we begin. Once we take responsibility for where we are and who we are, the only thing left is here we are! Where else do we need to be?

On this side of the grave, there never will be a time when the journey toward completion is over. And that's not because we're so broken~it's because the possibilities are so great.

Starting is all there is, so here I go!

My Divorce Song

Back in the day this was my divorce song.

It makes me happy every time I hear it...

even in 2012.

My Little Social Butterfly :):)

Kinsley received a phone call today from a friend from school. She was so excited to be able to talk to her friend on the phone. She ran upstairs with the phone and when she was done talking to her friend came and told me all about it.

(Her excitement level cannot be described accurately in this post because I cannot find the right words. She made me smile through the entire process because she has never really communicated with friends on the phone until now. I figured, why not?? If I don't make a big deal out of it then maybe she won't make a big deal out of it later on down the road. Who knows? I might be on to something..)

She let me know that she read her friend a story over the telephone and she got to listen to music from her friend's house. How fun!!

She then wanted to call everyone: Grandma, Aunt Kim, Her Cousins, etc.

We'll sit down later to go over some things to think about when using the telephone and how she should always ask permission first as well as make sure all her stuff is done first. This could wind up being a great lesson in prioritization without having to think too hard about it. On top of that she is enhancing her social skills. Double fun!!

Kinsley rocked her progress report, too!!! :):)

Listening/Speaking Skills: Performance Progress=PRF, Effort Progress=S.

I'm doing the Happy Dance!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

High Five Fiona! :):)

I got a phone call from the nurse today. Apparently Fiona accidentally bonked her forehead against the wall in gym. She has a slightly swollen bluish bump on her forehead. The nurse automatically calls home to let us know what happened so we can assess the situation together and proceed from there. I talked with Fiona on the phone and she seemed a little sad but insisted she would be fine because she really wants to go back to class.

Way to push through the day Fiona! What a trooper. I asked her how she was feeling and told her how sorry I was that she hurt herself in gym class. I offered to come and get her but she insisted she would be okay and the nurse seemed to be okay with Fiona's decision. She got to ice her forehead for a little while and back to class she went.

Fiona brought home her fourth quarter mid-term progress report. I could not be more proud of her good work in school. She is conscientious and extremely driven. I am impressed with her performance as well as her effort.

The Day The Music Died

Did you write the book of Love ~ and do you have faith in God above ~ if the Bible tells you so ~ ♥

I don't know why but this was the song I was thinking of when I heard that Dick Clark died.

Weird, eh?

What can I say? More Randomness

Had my 3rd mammogram last week. They have a new imaging machine at the hospital. I don't know what it is about this new machine but this go around HURT. The technician would ask me if I was okay and I would grit my teeth and mumble, "YES" .. hurry up lady. It hurts! I don't know what it was about this go-around but it HURT. The machine squeezes the crap out of your boobs. It's not fun. BUT, it is worth the pain in order to make sure everything is okay and there is no breast cancer. I'm glad for that.

My last load of laundry is in the dryer as I write! Now I move on to washing all our sheets, pillow cases, and comforters. Laundry Fairy Extraordinaire is what I Am! Go Me!

I could go for some chips and salsa right about now. I think I will. YU-UM! That's another reason to be glad lent is over. I can indulge again if I want to but not to worry. I'll be partaking in some treadmill time later on today before I have to get ready to pick the girls up from school.

So...what do you think of my randomness? Do you like it? Should I keep doing this? Would you like to read more of what's going on in my life? I think you would be happy to know that I don't always get down and dirty about what's happening. Those that know me, get it. Those that don't know me, don't really get it. To many I'm just another alias floating around in the magnetosphere probably boring the crap out of you. You don't even know why you bothered to read this far down by post today..right? ;)

There are so many things I want to write about. I think because of those things I have created a wall for myself. It makes me not want to write as much. Why bother if can't tell you what's going on? So many bloggers paint this fairy-like princess perfect life. How authentic is that? Just because you write it and can't take it back on the internet doesn't mean it's wrong. Life is a journey. We do things all the time in our lives that we can't take back. So even if you found this page 30 years from now, so what? You don't think I'm still evolving? You don't think I'm still learning on this journey? Just because it's not on my blog doesn't mean it's not there which is making me question why I am holding back. It's a legit question, don't you think?

So what do you think? To blog or not to blog? That's the question! Does it really matter who I am or that you know me OR that my children may one day pop back on here and read all of this? This blog doesn't define my life nor do the circumstances that I sometimes find myself in. How wonderful it might be for a total stranger somewhere out there to come to a point of realizing that other people are going through the same things they are..Or to just know that they are not the only ones dealing with world class butt-heads. What a relief that would be..don't you think?

I wish Sushi would stop barking. She thinks this street belongs to her! I supposed it's time for the shock box. Don't hate! You would use a shock box too if you knew how well behaved she is when it's on. I can take her up to the school to get the girls and she doesn't snap at all when someone tries to pet her. She doesn't try to chase every yellow school bus going by either. I'll have to remember to put the shock box on her the next time we visit the vet. I think the vet will be pleasantly surprised that they can go about their business without having to muzzle her.

If my husband, children, family, friends, and loved ones were to come back and read this blog 30 years from now that would put me at roughly 72 years of age if I am lucky enough to still be alive. I think they would know without question how much I love them and would realize that sometimes life is not perfect. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes those things are meant to be shared. If you bottle it all up what good does that do? Life is messy. Life is beautiful but it is messy. Even people who don't blog have blogs. They have them in their daily activities, telephone conversations, music, songs, trips, notes, movies, tweets, books...in pretty much everything that they do. Agree? Or do you see it different? If so, explain yourself to me. Spell it out for me. What do you think? To blog it or keep it to myself THAT is the question I'm asking you today.

Dang! My dog is loud and extremely territorial for a 10lb peanut that will never get any bigger. She sits at the window and guards the street. You will never succeed at getting by my house without Sushi letting me know you were here..so watch yourself!

We have church tonight. I'm excited about it because I don't have to cook! Ha ha! It's also make-up night but my kids finished their books since long before spring break. We just wanted to be done with it so we wouldn't have to worry about it when it came time for SPRING fever. We're not really interested in the review stuff because well...we don't need anything to tell us that we went through the review process. I wasn't really familiar with it anyway until now. We review at home and that's good enough for me. I'm gonna miss the kids this summer. I had a really good group of kiddos this year. I'm debating on whether or not to continue in Sparks or move on to TNT. I've been working with Kinsley for three years now. I'm thinking it's time for me to spend some time with Fiona and try something new?

See...? The washer and the dryer are finished with this cycle. It's time for me to end this post and hop on the treadmill. I am craving some treadmill time..seriously. I miss it. I need those endorphins flowing through me. It puts me in a better place because sometimes life is just dog-gone messy! Don't forget to let me know what you think, okay?

The Lesser of Two Evils

A friend of mine posted a quote this morning by Charles Spurgeon: When choosing between the lesser of two evils, choose neither.

It reminded me a lot of Kinsley because I remember her being provided with a choice once. I don’t recall the exact circumstances only that she was very upset. In her firmest tone with arms crossed she said: I. CHOOSE. NOTHING.

Cracks me up every time I think of that.. :):)

Kinsley Lost Her 1st Tooth Today

She asked if she could write a letter to the Tooth Fairy asking her if it would be alright to keep her tooth until she has a chance to show it to her dad. Her big sister Fiona suggested it and Kinsley felt that would be a good idea but she wants to work on that later.

Random Thoughts & Such

The mailman came early today. I'm happy about that. Love the fact that I have the whole house to myself. The kids are at school, Don is working and I am free to do whatever I choose to do. I love this part of my life. I've got laundry going, my kitchen is halfway clean, I've had a nice peaceful lunch of leftovers, and I've decided to turn this post into a randomized collection of this, that and the other. I needed to find my blogging MOJO and this would be the PERFECT way to begin. If you're bored by now then you'll want to save yourself some time and EXIT my blog ASAP.

I've inherited this large piece of superseal tupperwear. I've had it for a few years now. It's all the way from TEXAS. I can't for the life of me get it to open with ease. In fact, it's a pain in the butt to peal the lid off. I promised myself if I was able to get the lid off I'd eat my lunch and then off to the TRASH it goes.

I really enJOYed lent this year. I've never participated in it before. Every time I thought about consuming something I vowed not to I would think of Christ nailed to the cross and the desire would flee my body. It was HARD but nothing as difficult as what Christ endured on the cross and eventually conquered in death. The battle has already been won. We just have to GRAB on to Jesus and never let go. It's THAT easy!!

You know..I thought about exercising hard core during lent but that just never materialized. So many things were going on and to be honest..when you remove stuff like sugar, sweets, chocolate, fast food, and nuts (literally & figuratively) you are tempted and tested every single time you turn around. Was it perfect scenario? No, it was challenging but not completely perfect. I did try and stick to breakfast boxes that had 4g of sugar or less. If it had more than 4g of sugar I did not consume it. I didn't eat chips either. Towards the end I did eat crackers and such but always did my best to look at the sugar content of the item.

Overall I found that if I removed all of those things from my diet, walked to and from school to get the kids when able to, hopped on the treadmill once or twice, not really overdoing it..I lost 10 lbs. That's just from tweaking my diet alone. Can you imagine what I can do if I added daily exercise to that?

I'm still on My Fitness Pal but I have to be honest with you guys..I do not like tracking my food. I just don't like it at all. I'd rather record the exercise and weigh in when I know I've lost weight. Anything more than that and I get distracted easily..bored..it becomes a nuisance for me..too much trouble.

So the washing machine just finished up a load and I'm about done with lunch. I need to throw those bad boys in the dryer and I'll be right back!!! Look for my next post.

Remix Love

Sometimes a choice that is right for me may be uncomfortable or even unacceptable to others. Other people’s expectations are not my responsibility.

Ignoring the Facts

How easy it is to see what we want to see and ignore the facts staring us in the face.

He said that as soon as the Judge took his seat there were a few lights that flicked on. That is when he knew you had then entered the courtroom. I noticed those lights but had not made the connection until we were discussing it after lunch on our way to the cemetery. When people ask me how it went I say, “HORRIBLE.” What else am I supposed to say? Our local news reporters are not all that great. After all this time they still can’t get it right! I know this doesn’t surprise you. I was super impressed with the Judge. I am pretty satisfied with his decision. Even though it wasn’t life it is life-like and that makes all the difference in the world. We miss you so much especially your children. Next time we come to pay our respects I will try and remember to bring a butterfly to add to your collection. Oh I almost forgot…we were driving home on Easter and right in front of us was a license plate with your name on it! I know…crazy huh? But I think it’s cool when these things happen and I thank you for that.

Pray and Feed Yourself

IMHO YouVersion is the best application of all time for anyone with a smart phone. If you don’t have a smart phone you can just as easily access it from the web. It has every version of the bible you can think of to make it easier for you to read.

Don't let someone feed you the verses of God's Holy Word. Pray and feed yourself! He wants a relationship with you. You don't need to go through someone to achieve that relationship. Talk to Him! He wants to hear from you. You can talk to Him directly. You can have an unscripted conversation with Him every single day.

How do you know what God has to say if you don't read His Holy Word? People ask me all the time what I think of this or that. I have to ask them right back, "What does the bible say?" No matter what the controversy or hot topic of the day is the bible has all the answers you will ever need to live your life.

If you are unsure or you are still learning you can always rest on what Jesus said were the two most important commandments. I'm not going to tell you what they are because you really should be picking up your bible and reading it for yourself.

We teach our kids the importance of reading but how are we going to raise up our children if we ourselves don't read? If reading is so fundamental to the growth and development of your child then why aren't you reading your bible? I will never stop reading my bible.

Good Friday

I never get tired of this one. It gives me goosebumps (also known as affirmation) Every. Single. Time. I listen to it. Without fail. It is a very Good Friday, indeed!

It's My Turn

I have an eye appointment this morning. It’s been awhile since I’ve had one of those. I’m not looking forward to the bright flashes, the air sprays, or the pupil drops. I’m guessing my eyes may have taken a turn. We’ll have to wait and see. I’ll try not to leave you hanging in suspense. I've been in glasses since 3rd grade and contacts since 11th grade. I do wear my glasses more the older I get even though I like myself a lot better in contacts. The kids already had their eye appointments. They don’t need glasses. They are good to go.

Glorify ye the LORD in the fires!!!

Glorify ye the LORD in the fires. (Isaiah 24:15 KJV)

Notice the little word "IN"! We are to honor the Lord IN the trial - IN the very thing that afflicts us. And although there are examples were God did not allow His saints to even feel the fire, usually the fire causes pain.

It is precisely there, IN the heat of the fire, we are to glorify Him. We do this by exercising perfect faith IN His goodness and love that has permitted this trial to come upon us. Even more, we are to believe that out of the fire will arise something more worthy of praise to Him than had we never experienced it.

To go through some fires will take great faith, for little faith will fail. We must win the victory IN the furnace. ~Margaret Bottome
