C25K Week 1 Day 1

Today was the first day of couch to 5k running (C25K).

Week 1 Day 1 = 5 min walk, 2 min jog, 5 min walk

That's easy enough. In fact, I was a little worried it might be too easy for me. I was right. It was too easy for me. I decided to improvise.

The reason I added to my workout is because I know that in order for me to lose weight and build up my endurance I need to be working out for at least 30 minutes.  That's what I did.

For now I have my incline set to level 1. I wasn't really sure what speed I would set my treadmill so I decided that when I'm doing C25K will jog at 5 MPH and walk at 3.5 MPH. I think that's a fair setting since I'm not too totally sure what to expect.

Since the program is insisting that I rest tomorrow I KNEW I would need to improvise and mix things up a bit. 12 minutes of C25K left me with 18 minutes to play with - I decided I would ramp it up by walking a song on my iPod and running the song after (every other song) until I completed the 18 minutes left of my 30 minute workout session. I know C25K will be harder for me later on down the road as the weeks follow so maybe this will help me build on my endurance.

I really do not like working out but I know I need to if I want the body I crave and I want to keep my heart, lungs, and the rest of me healthy. That's just the way it is. I need to SUCK IT UP and make exercise a way of life. Who knows...maybe if I keep it to a 30 minute minimum I will learn to love it more and it won't feel so daunting.

For a second there towards the end of my workout my body decided to sweat like a pig and my skin started to itch. I know that has something to do with my circulation but it also got me wondering if I was allergic to perspiration. Can you imagine being allergic to perspiration? LOL :)

Tomorrow the program requires me to rest and that's fine with me because we have special plans with our family tomorrow for the fourth of July. Works out perfectly!!

I would love to hear from you if you are doing this program and how it's working out for you. If you're feeling it - hit me up on My Fitness Pal (MFP).

Until next time...Happy C25K!!! :)
