Score With Books!!!
This year we’re participating in our school’s summer library program. The school was able to set this up because they were awarded a grant. For the next four weeks Fiona and Kinsley can come to the school library, pick out a free book, participate in the special event and check out two library books to take home.
On Tuesdays they have story time. On Wednesdays they have a special event. On Thursdays they have activity time. Each and every time we go the girls get to pick out a free book. The neat thing about the free books is they are brand new ones like the ones you might order from a book club during the school year.
Since Kinsley is already registered for kindergarten in the fall she got to participate with her big sister Fiona. Fiona felt compelled to show Kinsley around the library and introduce her to all the teachers that were their participating in this summer library fun.
We got the girls registered in the program, they picked their free book, they checked out library books, we read for a little while, story time came and went and after we were done at the library we hit the playground. The nice thing about the school play ground is even if it’s rained there is gravel on the ground so it’s not muddy at all. I’ll have to remember that the next time it rains.
Kinsley selected Grumpy Bunny Tales by Justine Korman Fontes, Illustrated by Lucinda McQueen for her free book to keep and take home. The two books she decided to check out and bring home from the library to read were Owen by Kevin Henkes and Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
Fiona Selected Save the White Whale by Geronimo Stilton for her free book to keep and take home. The two books she decided to check out and bring home from the library to read were Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and Catching the Moon by Crystal Hubbard, Illustrated by Randy DuBurke.
This summer reading program will go on for the next four weeks and we plan to participate each and every day while we are able.
