Made it Home today from the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 29, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that she made it home from the hospital this morning. They took real good care of her and the nurses were amazing!

Her blood inflammation levels were around 80. Again, 0 - 9 is normal but she is improving every day. When she was admitted on Thursday her number was around 375.

She hasn’t had a fever now in 48 hours which is AWESOME. She’s even starting to get her spunk back. We were blowing bubbles in the hospital room this morning and she was jumping up and down on the bed trying to catch them - IV and all!

For the next 10 days or so she will be on a very strong antibiotic and we’ll have a follow-up in two or three days with her doctor.

I hope and pray that she never again has a cold settle in her lungs. It’s absolutely awful for the kiddos.

The other thing I’d like to ad is that you should always follow your first instincts when it comes to your child. I kept telling the doc that I thought Fiona’s legs were awfully thin.. I could see the bones in her knees.

Now normally she is small and thin like most little girls her age.. but she was so dehydrated that her eyes were sunken and you could see her little knees. There wasn’t this soft round puffy skin around her knees like there normally is. Her knees look normal again.. so my instincts were right all along.

The other thing I’d like to share is don’t assume that your child has a virus or that the doctor is just going to send you home. I stayed home with her for the first part of the week thinking they were just going to send me home - trying to get her fever under control. Next time I won’t wait so long.

You guys that have left me comments of encouragement and/or prayers ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I can’t even express how much that means to me!!

Another long day at the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 28, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

Today was another long day at the hospital but this time there was improvement with her condition. For one thing, the last time she had fever was yesterday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon. That means that she went more than 24 hours without fever which is what they were hoping for before they would think about sending her home.

She’s still in the hospital but we are hoping she will get to come home tomorrow. I did the day shift and Don is doing the night shift. Today her inflammation numbers were down into the 180’s instead of them being in the 300’s. I guess normal is somewhere in the neighborhood of 0 - 9. Today she didn’t have to stay hooked up to the oxygen machine all day. She only had to have it on while she was sleeping. She still had the IV in though which was a good thing.

Her eyes are not sunken any more and her little knees are not bony like they were. She was going to the bathroom A LOT which tells me she was getting lots of fluid between the IV and all the juices and water we were pushing on her. The other thing that told me she was ready to come home was her sassiness! The theatrics hit around 5:30 when I announced to her that I would be stepping out into the hallway until she could calm down. You see, she was a little ticked that I wouldn’t let her watch her sponge bob movie while she was eating her dinner. She wasn’t eating her dinner and she wouldn’t let me help her.

Grandma and Grandpa came up to see her and they surprised the littlest ones with some Barbie Dolls and a Baby Doll. Big Sis Ree brought some nail polish remover, cotton balls, and some nail polish and did some little manicures for the littlest ones too. They really got a kick out of that one!

So I’m setting my alarm clock for 7:00 AM so I can get their before 8:00 AM. I will hope and pray that her blood work goes well and the x-rays show clear so that she can come home. It’s been a long three days at the hospital.

Fiona is in the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 28, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

She has pneumonia and it’s pretty complicated right now. She was admitted into the hospital yesterday afternoon after taking her to the doctor. She has had fever ranging from 101 to 105 all week and we couldn’t seem to keep it under control so we finally took her in. They did a chest x-ray and tested her oxygen level in the office. That’s when they made the determination that she needed to be admitted. I knew something was wrong when they tested her oxygen level because they don’t normally do that unless they see something in the x-ray. (which they did)

Today was day two at the hospital. They are taking really good care of her. They have her hooked up to an oxygen machine and her IV has antibiotics going in along with the usual stuff that is supposed to keep her hydrated and healthy. They tested her blood for some sort of inflammation level and I guess 375 is sky high.. so she is going to be in the hospital for sure all weekend. She won’t be able to come home until she can go for 24 hours without a fever and that inflammation number I was telling you about has to go down - A LOT.

I’m hoping to report back with improvements the next time I let y’all know what’s going on. The only people that really knew she was in the hospital were the those we had the chance to talk to. Otherwise it’s been so crazy around here between taking turns. Oh and Kinsley and I both got checked out at the doc’s office the same day. Kinsley has Croup and I have some sort of stomach virus. Come to find out the Effexor that I’m taking intensifies things when I’m sick. I also find out that it’s the Effexor that is causing me to stay up at night. So now I just have to figure out a routine of taking it in the morning instead of at night.

Please pray for Fiona. She’s lost so much weight. Her eyes are sunken and her little body looks so small and frail. She’s got all sorts of stuff inside of her right lung. She’s going to have more x-rays and blood work tomorrow. Poor thing, they had to stick her five times to get the IV in. Please just pray for her.. and if you are a loved one and close friend I’m sorry I have not had a chance to call you. Like I said.. we are all sick and between trying to get sleep and taking turns at the hospital it’s been nuts.

Just pray, ok?

AWANA: Psalm 23: 1-6

I'm so proud of Fiona. She is only six years old and she can say the verses of Psalm 23 all together.

Psalm 23: 1-6

The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
For His names sake.

Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love
Will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

My Future Son-In-Law

Kinsley informed me that she wanted to marry SpongeBob SquarePants. Lol :)

Parent Teacher Conferences

Fiona rocked her Parent Teacher Conferences! She is right where she needs to be and on many things she is above average. Her teacher said she is a good girl, very respectful of grown-ups and follows directions.

Fiona was pretty proud showing us all the cool artwork she did that was posted in the hallway. Now I have more Halloween decor for our house when she brings all of her seasonal artwork home.

I have to remember next time to take my good camera with me so the pictures won't be so blurry. I used my camera phone for these but that is ok because they have that blurry feel that you get when you see a ghost this time of the year.

GHOSTPERS

Kinsley is hilarious. She is dead set on calling Casper the Friendly Ghost: GHOSTPERS. No matter how many times I tell her it's "CASPER" she keeps insisting it's "GHOSTPERS." Lol

Flu Shots

We went and got our flu shots this morning: Me, Kinsley and Fiona. I told them about this a week ago so they would have time to process the information. They asked me if it would hurt. I told them no not really. I let them know they could look away if they wanted to and afterward we would do something fun!

Well, I think they were in shock because the shots didn't hurt at all. They were kind of questioning the fact that they could not even feel it. That's how wonderful our nurse was. She also did this little trick where she would start to count and instead of waiting until the #3 she would immediately stick the needle in real quick as soon as she said the #1 so that they were unable to really expect it.

Fiona went first. Kinsley insisted I go next so I did. I went second. Kinsley went last. She tried to suck her thumb but we explained to her that she needed to relax her arm. So I helped her with that and she stuck her head into my arms for some comfort. When she lifted her head up it was already over. Again, there was an expectation of, "why didn't that hurt?"

Now we are all set for swine and flu season. I got the swine flu last year and will tell you it was not fun. I was in bed for almost a week and nobody could come around me. I had difficulty breathing. I don't want that again and if it does come again at least I will be prepared to fight this thing off. We will all be ready now.

I Love This Song

HT: Stretching My Faith: Indescribable

This song reminds me of our worship team at church. The worship team for our youth groups at church also plays this song sometimes. It is a song that reminds me of Lauren. I hope that one day she will come to realize just how AMAZING God is and how much he loves her unconditionally with no strings attached.

Ten On Tuesday

1.) I am Loving this Ten On Tuesday Blog Meme.

2.) Kinsley is Loving Cubbies this year. She is doing Great w/her verses!

3.) Fiona is Loving Sparks this year. She is doing Great w/her verses. We are learning just a few verses at a time. We spend a lot more time reading and discussing the Bible stories, which in my eyes is more important than memorization. Slow and steady is fine with us.

4.) I am Thankful that my girls are respectful of other grown-ups and authority figures. They are both good girls and I couldn't be more proud!!

5.) We don't have school on Thursday and Friday due to Parent Teacher Conferences. This will give us a four day weekend. I'm excited about that!!

6.) On Thursday we have Parent Teacher Conferences. I will be attending that with my girls. Don won't be able to make it because he will be out of town. Who knows, we may shop for Halloween costumes that day.

7.) Friday we have our last neighborhood movies in the park event. I think we are going to go to that one. We have had tons of fun going to these events. I really love my neighborhood. Our neighborhood association fees are affordable at only $50.00 p/year and they provide so much for our families to see, do and enjoy. I could not have asked for a better neighborhood to live in.

8.) Friday we are getting our flu shots! This year they have combined the swine flu vaccine with the shot. That is how the nurse explained it. I'm so glad too. I had the swine flu last year and missed out on all of the Halloween festivities. Swine Flu is not fun at all.

9.) Swim Lessons are going Fabulously!! Kinsley can now swim without a flotation device! That is so important. Next summer I think both my girls are going to be ALL over the swimming pool and up and down the water slide. I'm so proud of them that they can swim.

10.) I'm looking forward to all the Fall/Halloween festivities that will be going on in our neighborhood this weekend. There are two events we are thinking of attending. Who knows, the cousins may join us too!!

Jack O Lantern

Kinsley made a Jack O Lantern. She was so proud of it she came home and taped it to the fireplace. Her Jack O Lantern is cute!! I think we will work on decorating our house for Halloween!!

TEXAS 20 --- Nebraska 13

Now I don't have to listen to someone at the gym tell me, "You have a lot of nerve wearing that Texas shirt in here."

Now I don't have to listen to people say, "You cheated."

Now I don't have to see t-shirts on TV like THIS one: Tuck Fexas.

I didn't realize how much money could be made on hatred and unsportsmanlike conduct. Yes, I saw the Tuck Fexas t-shirts all over the crowd on TV.

Go Huskers ...... all the way to the Big 10. Now you can find a brand new rival to complain about and I no longer have to put up with all the negativity.

HOOK EM HORNS!!!

The other day I went to the gym and I was wearing my Longhorn shirt. As I walked through the front door to tell them my account number and get on to my workout one of the supervisors at the gym said, "WOW!! You have A LOT of nerve wearing that T-SHIRT here." I just looked at her and chimed in, "EXCUSE ME? But we have Nebraska fans down in Texas. We can route for whoever we want to." I just smiled and went on my way.

I am from Texas. I was born in Texas. I grew up in Texas. My family is from Texas. When I was in high school I had admired the Texas Longhorn Marching Band. Texas Rocks It!! You will not find a bigger music program or football program in Nebraska. In Texas parents can't wait to get to a high school football game on Friday Nights and on the weekends if they can hit up a college game somewhere then that's where they are. It's BIG and it's BIG FUN too.

You can take ME out of Texas but you can't take TEXAS out of ME.

Today we are having our friends over to watch the game. I'm not sure if they are all going to come but if they do then we will watch the game on our big screen TV down in the basement. If they don't all come to watch the game here then we will head over to my sister-in-law's house. They have a huge high def TV we will watch the game on.

My brother's wife sent me a care package especially for today's game. Inside is a Texas Longhorn T-shirt and a brand new Texas Longhorn ball cap!! I think I have some burnt orange nail polish somewhere -- oh and let's not forget my Texas Longhorn Bell!! Tradition here in my house is that every time Texas scores any points I step outside and I RING THAT BELL. Yeah, my neighbors love me!!

Of course Fiona routes for Nebraska with her Dad and Kinsley routes for Texas with ME. We have loads of fun when we watch. We scream, yell, and sometimes we jump up and down. Yes!! HOOK EM HORNS!!

GO TEXAS!!! HOOK EM HORNS!!!

11 On Tuesday

1.) 1 John 2:22, 1 Corinthians 3:11, Colossians 1:15-16, John 1:14, Acts 4:12 -- These are great verses to have handy whenever you feel the enemy is trying to tempt you.

2.) I’m not actually trying to change 10 on Tuesday. I like 10 on Tuesday just the way it is. I just felt that 11 on Tuesday would be appropriate today.

3.) I am done participating in PTA fundraisers at school. I forgot to pick up my refrigerated item this week. I was off by 1 day. The school sent my 1 item back to the warehouse. It’s just not worth the effort to try and sell when I can just as easily write a check.

4.) If I get one more Jesse Jackson parenting quote in my PTA newsletter I may have to say something.

5.) Fiona is sick. She was sick with a fever all weekend and she had a fever when I took her to the doctor yesterday. I kept her home yesterday and today. She will go back to school tomorrow.

6.) After 9 years of putting up with the horrible customer service in the Pharmacy at Walgreens I finally switched to CVS. Yay!!

7.) I have been doing my Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred. I started on October 1st and I am feeling very motivated to keep going until I reach my goal. I am going to add Treadmill work to the routine. I’m pretty sure I will run/walk in the morning and then work the routine in the afternoon or at night after the kids go to bed. I really feel that will mix things up for me. BTW, I’m feeling Great!

8.) My oldest turns 19 tomorrow. I cannot believe she is going to be 19 years old. One more year and she will be into the 20-somethings!! That’s crazy!!

9.) My Dad and Brother are driving up from Texas on Thursday to visit us here in Omaha!! This is going to be a treat because we don’t normally get to see each other more than once a year or once every other year. They have never visited Omaha during fall weather so I am excited for them to see the brilliance of fall in Nebraska!!

10.) I am behind in blogging, cleaning, errands… EVERYTHING!! I have to laugh because I’m always behind but I know that it’s my own fault. I know what I need to do. I just have to DO IT.

11.) Fiona’s strep test came back negative yesterday but her throat looked so bad and she’s had so much trouble that he recommended looking into possibly having her tonsils taken out. So far she is doing much better today. She doesn’t have a fever and the medicine the doctor prescribed seems to be helping. It takes 48 hours to grow the throat culture. He told me yesterday he wouldn’t be surprised if her test results were a false negative. Because of that I kept her home from school today. As for her tonsils...I think we will wait on that and see if she continues to get sick with them.
