My Neighbors Rock

We got a knock on the door tonight along with a special delivery. Our next door neighbors dropped off these scrumptious treats along with a Christmas Card. I think that is probably one of the most thoughtful gestures anyone can make towards being neighborly at Christmas time. We are blessed to have great neighbors.

Remember our Milgard Windows?

Remember our Milgard Windows?

The crew was at our house installing them right before the weather turned. They got every single window in our house replaced and had nothing but trim-work to do. Yep, that’s right! All new trim throughout the house and we’ll be staining it in the spring.

Because all of our new windows aren’t as wide as the old ones I pretty much have a window sill on each and every one. The best part is that every single window will be able to open and I will also be able to clean the outside of them from the inside of the house. There are no more cold winter drafts which means there won’t be any humidity seeping in when summer rolls around either.

Now we are waiting for our custom French door to come in so we can replace the sliders off the kitchen in the back of the house.

I always get choked up

Here is Princess Fiona all dressed up for her school Christmas program. These productions are beautiful. I always get choked up when all the kids in school file into the main floor to stand and sing with the parents. Their school song is what they end the program with and the words and sound of their beautiful voices melt my heart. Yes, I cry every time!

7 Years

Fiona turned 7 last week and we have been on the go ever since. We had her class birthday party at the Amazing Pizza machine and eight of her friends from school were able to come. It was exciting and fun for all of us. The Sunday following her class party we had family over to celebrate. By the time it was all over Fiona crashed and Sushi joined her.

Our Milgard Windows

Our brand new Milgard windows are here! We have been anticipating this project on our house all year! I’m so excited! All 14 windows were dropped off right on time. Now I wait for the crew to get here to start the install!

Ten On Tuesday

1. It's okay if you don't workout every single day. If you are super sore after you do that Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD I was telling you about then take a few days to let your body heal. You don't want to injure yourself. Your body will get used to the fact that you are molding yourself back into shape and you will be able to do the video consecutively.

2. Fiona stayed home from school yesterday. She had conjunctivitis aka pink eye. She has had 3 doses of the drops the doctor gave us to give to her and already her eye is looking almost 100%. The doctor told us yesterday she could go back to school today.

3. I found out there are 3 types of conjunctivitis and they are not all contagious. Also, if the doctor gives you medicine and your child's eye is not clearing up then you've got the wrong medicine for your particular type of pink eye.

4. I am going through all the bedrooms and washing all the linens in hot water. It's always a good idea to do this when one or more of your family members comes down with something. It's something that should be done on a regular basis as it is. I need to tackle the bathrooms too. I should probably be handling the bathrooms more often so they are at a constant level of cleanliness. If you know me well then you understand my disdain for cleaning bathrooms especially toilets!

5. We went to a fancy Christmas Party last Saturday with some good friends of ours. It was great to be able to spend some time with them. The girls were excited to get to play with new friends in what I consider to be the most awesome play room I think they have ever seen! The compound (that's what I call it) was amazing! Inside the home everything was breathtakingly beautiful and better than anything I've ever seen in any real estate magazine. The party had valet and a full staff to take your coat, pour your drink, and make sure there was plenty to eat. I'm pretty sure the home theater had the most activity because of the Big 12 Championship Game. We are looking forward to having our friends over to our house for New Years Eve.

6. Every window in our house is getting yanked and replaced with a brand spanking new window starting tomorrow! I am excited because these new windows are going to make the old windows wonder how they ever made it into our house in the first place. We are also having the back door replaced with a brand new weather efficient french door. Many of the windows that we have in our house now that are from floor to ceiling do not open. Well that is going to change and the cross breeze in the spring, summer and fall will be absolutely wonderful. I'll be able to open those up either from the bottom, the top OR both. No more crank outs! The crank outs are all going away and I will be able to clean the glass from the inside of the house. Not to mention that there will be NO MORE drafts! Exciting Stuff!

7. After being on that incredible estate for the Christmas Party I got some great decorating ideas up my sleeve for our home. But first I really need to get rid of all the baby toys and clean up that playroom. If you haven't already noticed this about me I am the world's worst procrastinator. If I know something is going to be tedious I tend to wait, and wait, and wait on it. That makes me laugh!

8. I Love Christmas! I Love everything about Christmas! I Love what Christmas stands for and I Love to give gifts. I also enjoy sending out Christmas Cards to family and friends.

9. I miss my oldest daughter. She has moved from Georgia (Thank God!) to Texas. She is living with her grandparents now. That is the best place for her to be. As hard as this was for me to do I had to tell her Omaha was off the table. There is WAY too much trouble for her to get into with all of her friends who are on the wrong side of being bad influences. She is not strong enough to do what is right when faced with their extra curricular activities. Sometimes as a parent you have to do the tough thing and tell your kids no. I miss my daughter. This will be our 1st Christmas without her. Thankfully, she is able to be close to my brother and her cousins. That should ease the blow of being homesick.

10. I am looking forward to 2011. I can't believe 2010 is about to end.

Cheratussin AC Syrup and Levaquin

I am as sick as it gets. I can't complain because it's not the flu and it's not swine flu. It could be worse and it's not. Therefore, I am grateful.

Kinsley has a horrible cold so she won't be going to Cubbies tonight. I can tell she's not feeling well because she is currently taking a nap in Ree's bedroom. I have her in there because we can actually make the room dark which makes it nice for nap time.

Looks like Don and Fiona will be going to church tonight without us. I'll be at home in bed which is where I'm at right now.

I have a pile of stuff to dig through on my bed and it's nice that I can have my laptop with me in bed. The laptop does keep me warm as does Sushi my little Mini Pin who insists on snuggling under the covers right next to me.

I had a hard time sleeping last night. I don't understand why but I think it has something to do with my medicine. I may take a nap here myself in just a bit. I'd like to feel better tomorrow so I can do some birthday shopping with Don.

Ten On Tuesday

1. I am sick. I’ve been going downhill since last Friday. I have a doctor’s appointment today so hopefully my doctor can hook me up. I’m pretty sure I have a sinus infection.

2. I was going to try and decorate our tree in the front yard with Christmas lights today because it will be in the warm 50’s. That’s not going to happen. I don’t feel like it. Instead, I will wait until Friday to give this a try. It is supposed to be slightly warmer anyway around 52 degrees.

3. This year Christmas is going up EARLY. I would like to have the house decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving.

4. We are super busy this time of the year. Not only are we gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas but we also gear up for Kinsley and Fiona’s birthdays! We know Fiona wants to celebrate with friends but we haven’t figured out the venue yet. I know she would LOVE to celebrate at Pump It Up but she keeps changing her mind.

5. We haven’t figured out what we are doing for Kinsley’s birthday yet. We usually just celebrate with our immediate family so we’ll have to see how it all works out.

6. Check out Tuesday’s Tip Jar over on Blog Mommas because #7 corresponds with that tip. Yes, I wrote the Tuesday Tip over on Blog Mommas. Did you know that Blog Mommas belongs to me? If you have a blog and you know this OR just figured this out – what are you waiting for? Join the blog directory! It’s easy. All you do is link to Blog Mommas and then let me know that you did and I add you, introduce you, and you go in for the Blog of the Week drawing. Easy as Apple Pie! Yum!

7. We talked about the NVO lights for today’s Tuesday Tip Jar. So here’s what the Tree looks like:

It’s a Jaclyn Smith 7.5ft Madison with Clear Lights. We found our on sale at Big K. The lights are NVO lights which means they are Never Out Lights. Why is this important? Because most pre-lit Christmas Trees don’t have the Never Out Lights. When a light goes out the entire section of lights goes out and it’s a big hassle to try and figure out which bulb needs to be replaced.

Our new Christmas Tree also comes with a rotating stand. I’m excited about this because #1 it’s so super quiet you could hear a pin drop and #2 I will finally be able to decorate the entire tree to include the back of the Christmas tree!

8. Christmas is my FAVORITE Holiday! I feel blessed that both of my girls were born around this time. What a wonderful gift to receive just in time for the Holidays!

9. Birthdays are FUN for me because all the Birthday fun starts in August. Don’s birthday is in August, Lauren’s birthday is in October, Kinsley’s birthday is in November and Fiona’s birthday is in December. So we have August, October, November, December and then mine hits in March. Fun Fun Fun!

10. I will take a picture of our tree and share it with you when we are done decorating.

Upside Down Christmas Trees?

We're in the market for a new Christmas tree but not any like this one. I didn’t know they made upside down Christmas Trees!? What will they think of next?

Orange Juice in my Cereal

That’s right people. I poured orange juice in my cereal. If that doesn’t describe how things are going for me right now I don’t know what does.

For starters I woke up feeling sick as a dog. My throat hurts when I swallow, my lymph nodes are swollen, everything is scratchy, my chest is somewhat tight, and every once in awhile I have to cough.

I tried taking a Benadryl last night but that didn’t do much. I did take some Advil off and on yesterday to try and help with the pain but that didn’t put a dent in any of it.

Today Don took the girls to church and I stayed home. I honestly don’t know what the deal is because I don’t have a fever or anything like that. So...I decided to take some Claritin and see if that helps.

It seems to be working because I do feel better. But even though I feel better I still feel kind of sick.

I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Church Pajamas

Yesterday the girls had fun wearing their Pajamas to church!

Wearing Pajamas to church was a Sparky theme for our weekly club meeting.

My Cubby decided she wanted in on all the fun too!

The best part of this theme is they are ready for bed as soon as we get home.

Ten On Tuesday

1. I received a horrible text message from a stranger on my cell phone. It was so bad that I called the police and filed a report. The police are investigating it and hopefully will find the culprit.

2. We have some extracurricular activities going on in our neighborhood. Three times in one week of young people coming home after last call, screaming, yelling and fighting in the middle of the street. Because we live in a nice neighborhood I waited until the 3rd incident to call the police. You can bet I will not be waiting if this activity continues. I will call the police each and every time. Watch Me!

3. Rick Warren has some of the best tweets on twitter these days. He is constantly tweeting things that make people think! If you’re on twitter you can follow me here ----->@Divapalooza

8. I like that I can have an actual www on blogspot and am so happy with the new blogspot blogs that I don’t think I will ever go back to wordpress blogs. Don’t get me wrong, wordpress is great but I am tired of having to pay for hosting when blogspot blogs are FREE. I’m also tired of having to do updates over and over again due to wordpress always having to constantly update. The new templates on blogger blogs are fresh and clean and I Love IT!

9. Sushi gets her heart-worm pill today.

10. I love my family and my friends. Thank you for loving me back even when I’m not the most lovable.

Bacation

I think it’s hilarious that Kinsley thinks Don is on vacation when he has to go out of town on business. She is always saying things like, “Daddy…while you were on Bacation.” She likes to be the informant on what went down here around the house while he was on vacation. No matter how hard he tries to explain to her that he is not on vacation she continues to connect his business trips as vacations. I think it’s funny and laugh every time too.

Made it Home today from the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 29, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that she made it home from the hospital this morning. They took real good care of her and the nurses were amazing!

Her blood inflammation levels were around 80. Again, 0 - 9 is normal but she is improving every day. When she was admitted on Thursday her number was around 375.

She hasn’t had a fever now in 48 hours which is AWESOME. She’s even starting to get her spunk back. We were blowing bubbles in the hospital room this morning and she was jumping up and down on the bed trying to catch them - IV and all!

For the next 10 days or so she will be on a very strong antibiotic and we’ll have a follow-up in two or three days with her doctor.

I hope and pray that she never again has a cold settle in her lungs. It’s absolutely awful for the kiddos.

The other thing I’d like to ad is that you should always follow your first instincts when it comes to your child. I kept telling the doc that I thought Fiona’s legs were awfully thin.. I could see the bones in her knees.

Now normally she is small and thin like most little girls her age.. but she was so dehydrated that her eyes were sunken and you could see her little knees. There wasn’t this soft round puffy skin around her knees like there normally is. Her knees look normal again.. so my instincts were right all along.

The other thing I’d like to share is don’t assume that your child has a virus or that the doctor is just going to send you home. I stayed home with her for the first part of the week thinking they were just going to send me home - trying to get her fever under control. Next time I won’t wait so long.

You guys that have left me comments of encouragement and/or prayers ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I can’t even express how much that means to me!!

Another long day at the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 28, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

Today was another long day at the hospital but this time there was improvement with her condition. For one thing, the last time she had fever was yesterday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon. That means that she went more than 24 hours without fever which is what they were hoping for before they would think about sending her home.

She’s still in the hospital but we are hoping she will get to come home tomorrow. I did the day shift and Don is doing the night shift. Today her inflammation numbers were down into the 180’s instead of them being in the 300’s. I guess normal is somewhere in the neighborhood of 0 - 9. Today she didn’t have to stay hooked up to the oxygen machine all day. She only had to have it on while she was sleeping. She still had the IV in though which was a good thing.

Her eyes are not sunken any more and her little knees are not bony like they were. She was going to the bathroom A LOT which tells me she was getting lots of fluid between the IV and all the juices and water we were pushing on her. The other thing that told me she was ready to come home was her sassiness! The theatrics hit around 5:30 when I announced to her that I would be stepping out into the hallway until she could calm down. You see, she was a little ticked that I wouldn’t let her watch her sponge bob movie while she was eating her dinner. She wasn’t eating her dinner and she wouldn’t let me help her.

Grandma and Grandpa came up to see her and they surprised the littlest ones with some Barbie Dolls and a Baby Doll. Big Sis Ree brought some nail polish remover, cotton balls, and some nail polish and did some little manicures for the littlest ones too. They really got a kick out of that one!

So I’m setting my alarm clock for 7:00 AM so I can get their before 8:00 AM. I will hope and pray that her blood work goes well and the x-rays show clear so that she can come home. It’s been a long three days at the hospital.

Fiona is in the Hospital

Before you begin to read this post I just want to let you know that Fiona is Not in the hospital. Fiona is just fine. I am recalling a post I had written on July 28, 2007 and wanted to record it so I wouldn't forget it.

She has pneumonia and it’s pretty complicated right now. She was admitted into the hospital yesterday afternoon after taking her to the doctor. She has had fever ranging from 101 to 105 all week and we couldn’t seem to keep it under control so we finally took her in. They did a chest x-ray and tested her oxygen level in the office. That’s when they made the determination that she needed to be admitted. I knew something was wrong when they tested her oxygen level because they don’t normally do that unless they see something in the x-ray. (which they did)

Today was day two at the hospital. They are taking really good care of her. They have her hooked up to an oxygen machine and her IV has antibiotics going in along with the usual stuff that is supposed to keep her hydrated and healthy. They tested her blood for some sort of inflammation level and I guess 375 is sky high.. so she is going to be in the hospital for sure all weekend. She won’t be able to come home until she can go for 24 hours without a fever and that inflammation number I was telling you about has to go down - A LOT.

I’m hoping to report back with improvements the next time I let y’all know what’s going on. The only people that really knew she was in the hospital were the those we had the chance to talk to. Otherwise it’s been so crazy around here between taking turns. Oh and Kinsley and I both got checked out at the doc’s office the same day. Kinsley has Croup and I have some sort of stomach virus. Come to find out the Effexor that I’m taking intensifies things when I’m sick. I also find out that it’s the Effexor that is causing me to stay up at night. So now I just have to figure out a routine of taking it in the morning instead of at night.

Please pray for Fiona. She’s lost so much weight. Her eyes are sunken and her little body looks so small and frail. She’s got all sorts of stuff inside of her right lung. She’s going to have more x-rays and blood work tomorrow. Poor thing, they had to stick her five times to get the IV in. Please just pray for her.. and if you are a loved one and close friend I’m sorry I have not had a chance to call you. Like I said.. we are all sick and between trying to get sleep and taking turns at the hospital it’s been nuts.

Just pray, ok?

AWANA: Psalm 23: 1-6

I'm so proud of Fiona. She is only six years old and she can say the verses of Psalm 23 all together.

Psalm 23: 1-6

The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
For His names sake.

Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love
Will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
